heya all, so, its all kinda happening – i’ve set up the other site and am about to quit WordPress.com.  I’m a bit nervous at the changeover,… theres still loads of bugs to be ironed out with the new site, but, that should happen in time.

okay, so some general notes to myself and things-

1. Need to reinstall wordpress 2.1.1 because of a security leak..

2. Download TriK2 Theme using CoreFTP into MyDocs (so i’ve got a backup of current)

3. Reinstall wordpress 2.1.1 (upload using Core, rename folder as /despair)

4. Now… Reinstall original Trik2 theme download into wp-content folder (hopefully not corrupted as it comes from different site).

5. Overwrite style.css in Trik2 with my own updated, backed-up style.css

lets see what happens…

so sorry for this rather boring meandering post, it has noting to do with being Mentally Interesting, nothing to do with whats going on in life, or the fact that i’ll be off to see the Shelter surgery in a couple of hours where my Officer will work through my old tenancy agreement to work out whether it is legal or not.

note to myself: stop embarking on ridiculously huge projects

1. Go download WordPress.org

2. follow their installation guide exactly as written…

3. Don’t PaNiC!! …when you see the words ‘MSQLDatabase’ or MSql or just ‘Database’. It is actually, pretty easy if you’ve got CpanelX (CPanel is a tool that hosting providers give you to upload and manage files and doo all manner of widgetry gubbins).

4. Despite Earlier Advice DOn’T HavE HEART-ATTACK!! upon first loading cpanel and you see about a billion icons with such arcane legends as ‘mime’ ‘ftp’ ‘parked domains’… Stop. Breathe. Go have a cup of tea.

5. Remember, follow the installation guides exactly. They are your lodestone, they are your joy in the wasteland.

6. Once you have downloaded your free installation package from WordPress.ORG, go get a little program called CoreFTP LE (it’s free, and i think released by windows maybe?). This is only after you have realised that the File Manager in CPanel is just bizarre.

7. Use this program to connect to your webhost/personal domain name/doodah, upload wordpress folders to your desired directory.

8. Spend two hours trying to faff which part of the folders is the right directory, give up, start again. Have another cup of tea (very important).

9. Go back to old blog and Export blog (this will download a file to your computer). Once you have WordPress installed on your hosting server go and Import that file…Ta-Dah!!

Things You Wished You Knew About .Org WordPress:

- No Widgets

- No blogstats

- No friend surfer/my comments surfer

10. Now you have to go look for that extra special theme for you. None of the themes that you find will look anything like the one that you have in your head. You realize that the only thing for it is to venture into that dangerous territory known as editing. Thinking that you aren’t too bad, can handle a macromedia product or two you use Dreamweaver to view and edit files……Not realising that the only thing that makes a blog look like what it looks like is this weird thing called php tags. Anything you copy/paste orupload from dreamwevaer will be a mistake…

11. Despite all of the previous set-backs, the crippling disappointment and lack of faith in ones’ own abilities… You are actually quite enthralled and excited by endlessly looking at code and badly edited pages…

Keeps me away from me at least, i guess…

so doodlingintodespair is planning a server-move (i can now say that phrase and not feel incredibally pretensious…as if i understood what it meant)! Luckily i have a friend helping me out and sorting out my hosting services etc.

There’s a whole bunch of reasons, RL hasn’t really been working out for me in too many ways, weighing very heavy on my background anxiety levels. When i get anxious its like that invisible protective bubble that seperates ‘inner’ and ‘outer’ gets completely stripped away – my psychic ozone layer burning off by my toxic thoughts.

It’s hard to describe really, but i guess anyone reading this will understand
It’s like everything suddenly starts becoming more and more…Public?? Just simple noise from the street hurts, and hurts some more. I cannot distinguish where my thoughts end and the outside world begins…?? Everything has repercussions out there in the world.

I worry about whether i have just said, or am about to say the right thing…?
I worry that if i am making a noise then it will have an impact on my neighbours?
I can’t understand what anyone means, do they mean me? Do they mean what i think they do?

i wonder, in a faintly hypocritical way me using the blogosphere is all some attempt to define my identity? To seperate out some psychic space, have boundaries… Make a space which i can call home. It seems that RL has too many sharp, carnivorous corners for us blogonauts, at least certainly for me.

Whatever. Snarf. It’s something to do, and it’ll keep me occupied and happy.

It’ll probably take days and days to sort out, but everything will be posted up on here when it changes.
